Noise reduction is achieved by disrupting the harmonics produced when sawing certain materials and structures such as tubing and angle. An improvement in swarf clearance is also achieved.

Starrett carbide tipped holesaws have a high-hardness and increased resistance to wear this and a triple chip tooth grind, make them ideal for use on PVC, wood, fibreglass, ABS and materials that are too hard and abrasive for regular steel hole saws.
