What is an automated external defibrillator (AED)?

An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses and treats life threatening cardiac arrhythmias through the application of electrical therapy, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.

AEDs are easy to use and could be the best investment you ever make.

Why should you have a defibrillator?

Immediate defibrillation can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. Around 30,000 people have a cardiac arrest each year outside the confines of a hospital. The chance of survival after the heart stops falls by around 10% for every minute that passes without defibrillation. It can take the emergency services several minutes (and sometimes longer) to arrive.

They are wall mountable and are supplied with optional hanging bracket enabling the kits to be positioned at fixed first aid points but also easily released from the wall bracket to enable it to be carried to the injured person.

All establishments will need at least one first aid box. Large factories/offices will need first aid kits in every self contained working area and it is recommended that companies with more than 50 employees should consider the provision of more than one kit.

Remember that first aid should always be nearby and it is advisable to have one First Aid Kit of the appropriate size for each enclosed area.

Plaster Dispenser
