Manufactured with precision ground flutes for producing accurate thread forms, Sherwood Taps are available in all the popular thread forms and as straight Flute `Hand` Taps in 3 leads, Fluteless, Spiral Flute, or Spiral Point Machine Taps and also Long Series.

Sherwood Tap dimensions conform to ISO529 apart from NPT Forms which conform to ANSI 94.9. Straight Flute and Fluteless Taps are manufactured with a standard Bright Finish whereas the Machine Taps have an Oxidised Finish for best results dissipating the heat build-up associated with these applications.

Thread Forms are Class 2 medium fit tolerance.

Sherwood dies are for use in die stocks to cut external screw threads on metal rod, the split in the die allows the adjusting screws of the diestock to compress or expand the die to accommodate for slight variations in size of the material being threaded or die sharpness. Taper Tap UNC (Unified Coarse) Straight Flute Ground Thread HSS

Spiral Point Tap Metric Fine Straight Flute Ground Thread HSS

A spiral point tap has a chiselled point that pushes the metal chips ahead of the forming threads. This is useful when tapping through-holes (holes that extend through the work piece).

Spiral Point taps are not recommended for use in blind holes: the accumulation of chips can bind and break the tap.
