Sherwood Taps

Sherwood HSS Taps are the general purpose option for thread cutting in most materials including steel, some stainless steels, cast irons and non-ferrous materials such as Aluminium, Brass and many others.

Manufactured with precision ground flutes for producing accurate thread forms, Sherwood Taps are available in all the popular thread forms and as straight Flute `Hand` Taps in 3 leads, Fluteless, Spiral Flute, or Spiral Point Machine Taps and also Long Series.

Sherwood Tap dimensions conform to ISO529 apart from NPT Forms which conform to ANSI 94.9. Straight Flute and Fluteless Taps are manufactured with a standard Bright Finish whereas the Machine Taps have an Oxidised Finish for best results dissipating the heat build-up associated with these applications.

Thread Forms are Class 2 medium fit tolerance.

Spiral Point Tap Metric Coarse Ground Thread HSS

A spiral point tap has a chiselled point that pushes the metal chips ahead of the forming threads. This is useful when tapping through-holes (holes that extend through the work piece).

Spiral Point taps are not recommended for use in blind holes: the accumulation of chips can bind and break the tap.

The innovative GEN3SYS? system is designed for use with both ferrous and non-ferrous materials to provide high metal removal rates, increased hole accuracy and true position, as well as high quality finish. Using a unique helical geometry with high axial and radial rakes, the GEN3SYS? insert profile delivers optimum chip forming with elastic materials, such as structural steel and alloys, without compromising chip control on other materials. Carbide substrates, K35, K20 and K10 general purpose and cast iron geometries are available along with Allied Maxcut's proprietary AM200? coating as standard. Other coatings are also available as non stocked standards.
