Sherwood Dies

Sherwood dies are for use in die stocks to cut external screw threads on metal rod, the split in the die allows the adjusting screws of the diestock to compress or expand the die to accommodate for slight variations in size of the material being threaded or die sharpness. Sherwood dies are available as Metric Fine, Metric Coarse, UNF, UNC, BA, BSF, BSW, BSPT, BSPF, NPT cutting threads all the dies are manufactured from HSS with precision ground threads to the applicable standard.

Sherwood Taps

Sherwood HSS Taps are the general purpose option for thread cutting in most materials including steel, some stainless steels, cast irons and non-ferrous materials such as Aluminium, Brass and many others.

Manufactured with precision ground flutes for producing accurate thread forms, Sherwood Taps are available in all the popular thread forms and as straight Flute `Hand` Taps in 3 leads, Fluteless, Spiral Flute, or Spiral Point Machine Taps and also Long Series.

Sherwood Tap dimensions conform to ISO529 apart from NPT Forms which conform to ANSI 94.9. Straight Flute and Fluteless Taps are manufactured with a standard Bright Finish whereas the Machine Taps have an Oxidised Finish for best results dissipating the heat build-up associated with these applications.

Thread Forms are Class 2 medium fit tolerance.

Tap Set BA (British Association) Straight Flute Ground Thread HSS

Each set of Sherwood taps contain one taper, second and plug lead tap:

Sherwood HSS Taper Taps are used to start cutting the thread. They are tapered back from the end 6 to 10 threads before a fully threaded diameter is reached. This allows the tap to be positioned easily and correctly before it starts to cut the thread.

The Second Tap is used after the taper tap has cut threads into the hole as far as possible. It tapers back 3 or 4 threads before full thread diameter is reached.

The Plug Tap cuts threads to the bottom of a blind hole. It is only necessary to use the full set of taps when a blind hole is to be tapped.

Plug Tap UNC (Unified Coarse) Straight Flute Ground Thread HSS

The Sherwood Plug tap is used last after the Taper and Second tap have been used, when threading blind holes it cuts threads to the bottom of the hole.

Series S100

Sherwood Spotting Drills HSS-E

These specially designed drills produce accurate and true positional hole starts for follow-up drills. They provide exceptional alignment accuracy, achieved due to short flute and overall lengths and no body clearance. This very short design allows chucking very close to the point so that they will produce a true start or center. Traditional twist drill bits may tend to wander when started on an unprepared surface. Once a bit wanders off-course it is difficult to bring it back on center. A spot drill bit will provide a far better starting point as it is short and has a reduced tendency to wander. For accurate and fast spotting on NC machines, jig drills and other capital-intensive boring machines. Also suitable for countersinking and chamfering of tapping holes in one operation.
90 point angle - Offers hole chamfering and spotting with one tool.
120 point angle - Specifically for spotting and closely matches a typical drill point. The cutting edges of the following drill will engage easily for perfect hole location.
